Abstract
In this report, we compared the n vitro potencies of a new fluroquinolone CFC-222 with macrolides and tetracycline against 216 mycoplasma strains. The mycoplasma strains included 33 Mycoplasma pneumoniae isolated from 400 throat swabs and 1
referance
strain FH, 56 Mycoplasma hominis and 124 Ureaplasma urealyticum isolated from 300 vaginal swabs and 2 referance strain PG21 and T960.
The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) was determined by broth microdilution method. Hayflick's broth media and 10-B broth media containing antibiotic dilutions from 400¥ìg/ml to 0.098¥ìg/ml fo CFC-222, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline,
minocycline, erythromycin, josamycin, were inoculated with 1¡¿10E4 CCU/ml of each mycoplasma. The MIC of erythromycin, minocycline, josamycin, CFC-222 ofloxacin, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin for 90% of the 33 M. pneumponiae strains tested was
0.098,
0.98, 0.39, 0.78, 0.78, 0.78 and 1.56¥ìg/ml, reespectively. The MIC of CFC 222, josamycin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, minocycline, tetracycline, and erythromycin for 90 % of the 47 M. hominis strains tested was 1.56, 1.56, 6.25, 6.25, 12.5, 50.5
and
400.0¥ìg/ml, respectively. The MIC of erythromycin, CFC-222 josamyucin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, minocycline, and tetrycycline for 90% of the 83 U. urealyticum strains tested was 0.39, 0.48, 0.78, 1.56, 3.12, 12.5 and 25.0¥ìg/ml, respectively.
These results suggest that CFC-222 and josamycin were the most potent antimycoplasmal agents mycoplasmas in vitro.
